In my opinion the Chapel of the Cross is one of the most unique Episcopal churches in Mississippi. It is said to have been built by slave labor as well as volunteers which also included the daughters of Mrs. Margaret Johnstone who donated the land as a memorial for her late husband. Mrs. Johnstone must have been quite a southern lady since it is also told that she reared up daughters that helped hew the lumber and fire the bricks for this Madison County Landmark.
