What
will Happen to all those Digital Photographs?

The proliferation
of digital cameras and the ability to take large numbers of images may
result in losses of important family photos if your only storage media is
the hard drive on your computer. Hard drives can and do fail. There
is also the potential for your computer to get a virus that can wipe out
all those images stored on your hard drive. What can you do? We recommend
that you have archival prints made of those important photos as well as
copy them to hard media such as archival CD's or DVDs. If you plan to use one CD
for image processing have a second copy as a back up. You also need to be
aware that most inkjet prints will fade and do not have the same archival
qualities as prints produced by professional printers. If you plan to
purchase a printer do yourself a favor and spend a little more to get one
that is recommended by the Wilhelm research center for it's archival
qualities. It would really be a
shame to lose Aunt Sally's photos.
